Frequently Asked Questions

Which Africa routes qualify for €600 compensation?

Any flight over 3,500 km in great-circle distance. From Europe, that means everything south of Egypt: West Africa (Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana), East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda), Southern Africa (South Africa, Mozambique, Angola), Indian Ocean (Mauritius, Madagascar). North African routes are mostly €250–€400.

Is Cairo a €400 or €600 destination?

It depends on the European departure city. From London, Cairo is right around 3,500 km — the boundary between medium-haul (€400) and long-haul (€600). The exact great-circle distance is ~3,500 km from LHR. From Frankfurt or Paris, Cairo is well under 3,500 km — €400 tier.

What about Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh?

Both are further south on the Red Sea, putting them just over 3,500 km from northern European cities like London and Stockholm — €600 tier. From central European hubs (Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna), they fall in the €400 tier (1,500–3,500 km).

Distance is measured how?

Great-circle distance from the original origin to the final destination on a single ticket. Stops along the way (e.g. Doha, Istanbul) don't change the calculation. UK261 uses identical distance bands with £220 / £350 / £520 amounts.

What if I'm on a connecting flight?

On a single ticket, the relevant distance is from origin to final destination. So a London → Frankfurt → Lagos single ticket uses LHR–LOS distance (~5,000 km, long-haul tier €600). For separate tickets each leg is treated independently.
